Dutch Soccer Star Ties the Knot with Longtime Love
Martens and van Leer, a goalkeeper for Sparta Rotterdam, have been together for over five years.
In a private ceremony, Dutch soccer star Lieke Martens married her long-term partner, Benjamin van Leer. The couple has been dating for over five years and recently announced their engagement. Martens is a forward for FC Barcelona and the Netherlands national team, and was named UEFA Women's Player of the Year in 2017. Van Leer is a goalkeeper for Sparta Rotterdam in the Dutch Eredivisie.
The couple exchanged vows in a small ceremony in their hometown of Groningen, Netherlands. Martens wore a white lace gown, while van Leer wore a black tuxedo. The ceremony was attended by close family and friends.
Martens and van Leer have been very open about their relationship, and often post photos and videos of each other on social media. In an interview with Dutch magazine Voetbal International, Martens said that van Leer is her "best friend and biggest supporter." The couple is planning to honeymoon in the Maldives.
